What would you charge for a wedding shoot?

Just wondering what you guys charge...I have my first one coming up, so I'd like to get an idea...obviously whatever I charge will most likely be substantially lower than you guys simply because this will be my FIRST wedding ever...just looking for some parameters.

I charge $750.00. I charged only $500.00 for my first one.

I'd say $750.

Just shooting? No albums or prints or anything? Just going to give them the pictures from the camera?

But it's ok for us to do it for you?

First wedding: Free, shot as a wedding gift, they did pay 2 nights lodging
Second wedding: $400. they got RAW images from the camera
Third wedding: $500, RAW images
Fourth wedding: Free, shot as a wedding gift
5th: $200, it was my cousin
6th: $600, friends of my husband
Now we charge $600 for a very basic wedding, and $1000 with more coverage and end products, plus we have some a la carte pricing.
It depends on the time involved, end products, and will it be just you or you and someone else?
I'd say charge them a very nominal fee and make sure that they know it's your first wedding.

The one person I know that did her first wedding for $500 had no flash.

You have a flash so that is why I say $750.

All kidding aside try to build the image in your brain that you are already one of the best in the business. Confidence is the name of the game.

If you are comfortable with your equipment and have shot other events and activities and understand what has to be done at a wedding than charge for it.
My first wedding was $1500 and my fees went up as time passed by. Most underestimate the difficulty of doing wedding work and the large amount of time you have to spend in pp. I put 110% into my weddings and have everything ready to go ahead of time--meaning I know what is happening my gear is ready--backup gear is around my neck and understand and anticipate ahead of time---do not react--anticipate shots.
Charge what you are worth------show them the value in what you bring to the table....then as for your deposit.

You're going to need to figure out your costs.

Do I need to rent equipment? How long is the travel time (gas)? How much time will I spend in post production? How much will making an album cost, and the time invested into making said album? How much markup for said album do I want to get? Will I offer enlargements, DVD/CD's with reprint rights, and if so, how much do I want to get for giving away reprint rights? Will I have to send the album to the bride and groom, or am I meeting up with them afterwards? How much of a deposit do I need to get my necessary items?

Then you need to decide how much your time is worth. Time = money.

First wedding: $30 an hour, paid by the main photog. Last year. =)
