First of all, thanks to jgettis who first brought this possible solution to my attention.

It seems the discontinued Interfit EX150 and EXD200 studio lights had Elinchrom-compatible accessory mounts. One of the few accessories Interfit offered for these lights was a snoot, part number INT212. B&H has these snoots in stock for the very un-Elinchrom price of $29.95. I happened to be in the vicinty of B&H early this afternoon so I decided to pop in and get one.

Voila:

The snoot fits perfectly on the Genesis lights. It's made of metal (of course) and comes with a grid and and a few colored filter discs.

If you're looking for a cheap(ish) snoot for your Genesis 200's/400's or Elinchrom D-lites, you might want to give one of these Interfit units a try before they're no longer available. Heres a link:

Good find Dave!!

It's always great when you can find third party compatible products that save you some cash.

Hey, nice!

What are the chances they can fit (or be made to fit) ABs?

Looks good. Are you sure it fits Elinchrom?

Not a chance in heck Mike. 2 completely different mounts and not modifiable.

Yup Yup Yup. Any accessory that will fit a Genesis will fit an Elinchrom. I tested for compatibility between the 2 mounts. Elinchrom accessories will fit the Genesis and Genesis accessories fit the Elinchrom.

Well, aside from the fact that Genesis lights have an Elinchrom mount and accept only Elinchrom-compatible accessories, the salesguy at B&H tried the snoot on a genuine Elinchrom Style 600RX and it fit like it was, er, made for it.

Kewl! Thanks much. The Elinchrom snoot I was going to buy is like $70 IIRC. It looks more or less the same as the one you've posted. Always good to be able to save a few bucks.

Now I have to ask: what other accesories do they make for the Genesis lights that are worth considering for the Elinchroms? Barndoors?

I don't know how the higher end reflectors are for Calumet lights but the kit umbrella reflector is just ok. It has a very irregular pattern with hot spots. That might be remedied in the same way as the original Alien Bees shiny reflector. I used some steel wool and texturized the entire inner surface and the rim. Once done the pattern was much more even and the hot spot was reduced dramatically.

Beyond that, I don't know the Calumet line of accessories.

Interfit did/does make barndoors for the EX150 and EXD200. You can see 'em here:

http://****/3vrhmk (external link)

Alas, the barndoors are designed to clip onto the standard reflector (8-1/4" diameter) that comes/came with these lights. I asked at B&H whether the EX series standard reflectors are currently available and the answer was "no, discontinued". However, the Interfit barndoors are in stock at B&H.

When I got home, I measured the diameter of the reflectors that came with the Genesis lights and found them to be tantalyzingly close to 8-1/4" (a hair over).

Next time I go to B&H, I'll bring one of the reflectors to see if the Interfit barndoors will work.

Incidentally, the EX150 and EXD200 flash units as well as their (few) accessories are shown as current on the Interfit site (www.interfitphotographic.com (external link)) and also appear in the downloadable catalog. The EXD200 is also shown on the Adorama site:

http://****/3tj7bj (external link)

So, that's as much as I know to this point. The jury is still out on whether the Interfit barndoors will work with the Genesis reflector.

Hi Mike,
I don't want to hijack the thread but take a look at this thread:
https://photography-on-the.net …?t=391001&highlight=snoot

That was back when I owned Bees and did a ton of research to find compatible modifiers. The entire Norman line of accessories can be used on Alien Bees strobes. PM if you want/need more details.
