Hi,

So, I did a search on here for this first, but didn't come up with anything. So far I just do weddings part-time via word-of-mouth. I have found it very helpful to attend the rehearsal (unless it is far away). I realize if I were a professional doing this full-time it would be difficult to attend all the rehearsals. For the professionals, do you send your assistant and ask him/her to take notes? I guess this is probably more a question for the beginners though.

I have attended rehearsals, but often make do with a trip to the venue ahead of time just to check out angles, lighting, etc.

I normally show up early and scope everything out. Also once you have been around for awhile, you are bound to shoot the same venue twice, so you will know what to look for.

That's what I will be doing with a wedding i'm shooting this summer. I'm still a newb, so I want to make a gameplan.

When I did weddings I always went to rehearsal.
I never wanted to be surprised when the bridesmaids or groomsmen came from an strange locations or didn't know who the parents were.
Got caught looking once!
Promised myself never again!

ALWAYS check it out the 1st time. Some of the people who preside over weddings like to throw their weight around & say "NO!" to everything, so it's best to know where you stand beforehand. And sometimes the MOB can help out.

I go prepared with the assumption of no flash, feet planted at the rear. Anything else is gravy. All but the craziest weddings have a similar flow so that's not really an issue.
