If your indoors try to keep your subject as far away from the walls as possible. Other than that get the bracket.

When I am doing typical indoor portraits with my 430ex I find that using the omni-bounce cover and bouncing off walls reduces shadows to a pleasant level (Flash on hot shoe).

Remove the white bounce card (but still point the flash towards the ceiling) and see if you like that result better. At least you won't get the shadows you're complaining about. :)

You are right Leo, I just tried without the bounce card and I do not see shadows in vertical position. Thanks, atleast I do not need flash bracket for now.

Can you post a before and after picture of your shadows and without shadows? I am trying to learn the whole flash thing as I borrowed a 430EX from a friend and am wondering how it actually looked before and after.

Here are the settings and results..looks like bounced card works only when camera is in horizontal position (without flash bracket)..
All the below pictures were taken with camera in vertical position.

Have you watched the videos at http://www.abetterbouncecard.com/ (external link) ? I'd watch them before you buy anything. I believe the other thing that is really hurting you is how close the wall is to your subject. If you move your subject away from the wall, the shadow will decrease in intensity. If you're stuck with subjects that close to the wall, a background light might be necessary to wipe out the shadow.

Just a few thoughts,

Rob

Yes, i made one bounce card from that but that didn't help me to take vertical flash pictures without shadow.

For vertical position, the only option i found with no additional accessories is to remove the bounce card and bounce straight up (as you see in post#24). This worked for me as you see in second picture of post #22, which has no shadow.

I like the glamor shots of your vacuum cleaner. If I understand all were done in vertical position, can you add a couple of horizontal shots (with and w/o card) for comparison ?
