I'm looking to retouch other photographers photos but I read in another thread here:

You need a release from the original photographer or a release from the client stating that they have a release from the original photographer that allows them to share usage rights with you.

What does a release from the original photographer look like? does anyone have any examples I could use?

Sry 4 not clearin that up.. was a bit tired. Just want to put a before and after picture in my portfolio for retouching if thats ok. I've done alot of photo manipulations but rather have retouching and eventually image restoration in my portfolio. It is a Graphic Design/Photo Retouching portfolio and thought it would be best to ask here since I'm sure some people would need it instead of looking for stock photos. I'm not looking to say that they are my images at all, just that I retouched them, so thats all I'm looking to have rights to do I guess? A link to the photographers website and rights information would be included under each retouched picture. For example "Image courtesy of [Photographers Site]. All rights reserved." Or somethin liek that.. whatever works for the photographer :)

Hopefully there arent any problems! Should have cleared all that up.

Contact the photographer and get permission. That would be the easiest thing to do.

For a demo in a portfolio, it probably would be okay anyway. But unless it's a big deal, why not just get the permission? Who knows, maybe you'll end up with a working relationship with the photographer as a result of making contact.

Offer your free retouching service on model mayhem (to photographers) and some will send you pics and allow you to use the images in your port...

I agree that the model mahem route would be good. I actually would let you touch up some photos for me for free :D My only thing would be that I would want to be able to see the final output before you displayed it. Not trying to say your not good, but that would be a big problem if you retouched someones photo and then it didn't look good. It would reflect poorly on the photographer.

Oh no problem :) I wouldn't put the photo on display if the photographer did not like the outcome. If you would like you could PM me the photo or any information regarding the image you want retouched
