I bought a 70-200mm f/4L about a month ago and This was my first L lens to date and I wanted to take advantage of the cash back offer that canon are offering.
When I went over to the Canon website it says this
"3. Cut out the original barcode that you will find on the product box or boxes."
and on the box I have three as shown below:

IMAGE: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y56/AngelofDeathUK/barcodes.jpg
and really silly question but which one is it that I send or all of them?
Thank you for your help in advance.

Equipment: Canon 20D & Gripped 30D, 18-55 f/3.5-5.6, 50mm f/1.8, 70-200 f/4L, Speedlite 580ex ii, PocketWizards, Lowepro Computrekker Plus AW & Flipside 300

Not sure, I would see if they allow a photocopy. I hate cutting into the boxes but for £195 on cashback, course I will.

Canon do demand the original and yes, you do have to cut it from the box. It's only a cardbord box! However, it IS a weird system. Surely life would be much simpler if they included a redeemable voucher in the box?

I've always cut the whole section out and sent it, meaning all three barcodes you have posted. I have a cashback due on a 100-400 L and I stuck a copy of the original onto the box just in case I ever need the information.

Lastly, don't hold your breath waiting for the cash. It will take forever, at least it does in the UK.

Yes, you have to cut the box. Got my Cash Back after about 5 weeks.

5 weeks is a very rapid response compared to the waits I've endured. The last time it was 5 months and 3 letters of complaint to Canon. I've already waited 2 months this time! I'll let it go about 3 months before I start kicking.

It's the bottom code...the one with UPC to the left of it. I just mailed my rebate application. This will be my second rebate and I know that they are sticklers for details because the first time they made me jump through hoops before they sent the rebate. But I did get the rebate after a couple of months. I find the whole scheme convoluted (maybe to discourage people from bothering?) and inconvenient. In case I ever want to resell my Canon equipment I'd lot rather have the original boxes without holes cut in them. Instant rebates would impress me a lot more.

Maybe that's the point.. If Canon get everyone buying new lenses to essentially damage the cardboard box, then they know that the person is going to have a harder time selling on the lens.. And if there are fewer second-hand lenses available cheaply, then more and more people will buy new, direct from Canon or one of it's established commericla partners..

Maybe I'm wrong, but it does seem like an odd system ?!

It's the top one in you picture and you don't have to cut the box as the label is peelable with care. All I've done on all my cashback applications is to peel the label off, stick it to a piece of paper headed 'ORIGINAL LABEL FROM BOX' and posted it off with the application form. Never failed yet and I've just received my 5th cashback.

The label issue is answered... just thought i would add my experience that it also only took 4 weeks for the cash to be put on my account.

I beg to differ. The top 'stick on' label is not the UPC code, it is the serial number. They may accept it but they specifically ask for the UPC code which is the bottom code...definitely. This can be verified by going to their rebate center webpage and pre-registering. There you will find a list of UPC codes and one will match what is on your packaging.

I've cut the whole lot out before just to play safe - I didn't want them finding an excuse not to pay me money for the sake of a bit of cardboard.

It is just a cardboard box...

Not for UK Cashback Bill and the OP resides in the UK. Canon specifically show the top one on their Cashback site (see below) and as I've said, I have to date received five Cashbacks by simply peeling that label and posting it off

Mind you, it does say in bold 'cut' out...

Yes, I realise that but what can't speak can't lie. I have not cut any of my boxes and still Canon have honoured all my applications for Cashback.
