I am looking to buy a cheap macro set up for my recently ordered 100 f2.8 macro, will this older ringlight fit my lens? Is it worth having? thanks

I have this same set up and it works ok. Yes it does fit the 100mm macro. The problem is it is too strong in my opinion. You don't have flash exposure compensation with this flash. I had to put some black tape over half of the flash lenses, then us a fast sutter with a narrow apature. Remember that the max speed on the shutter for the flash will only be 200-250.I got some good results around F/22 and sutter speed at 1/250 sec . You may be able to lower the output with some masking tape over the lenses on the flash as well. Like I said it works but not as nice as the newer set ups.

thanks for the good info. I went ahead and ordered the thing, should get here about the same time as my new lens. I am a total flash newbie, always worked around the stuff if possible, a holdover from film days and bad experiences. I am going to learn alot with this lens and ringlight, maybe someday I will get the fancy one, but not till I know why I need it. thanks again.
