How much for a 2"x4" photo in sports section of paper?

This past week, I have gotten two calls about photos for local, small-town papers wanting pictures from the state track meet. Both times, the picture has been small, 2"x4" and not on the front page of the sports area, B&W.

I charged $20 for the first one, and $25 for the 2nd (pushing my luck). I don't really care how much I make, this is all just extra income for me. Since these are small papers, I thought that would be fair. How much am I under charging them (since I assume that would be what I am doing)

I dont know the answer and wouldn't even venture to guess, but I think it should be based on that newspaper's circulation figure.

It seems a little low to me, but there are some POTN'ers that could help a lot better than I can.

When I had a small weekly paper contact me, they paid $35 for me to take a shot they ended up using on the front page (large). When I submit sport photos to them, all I get is a by line. They only pay when they ask for it. Another paper in the area refuses to pay at all and they also only give a by line to their staff! I refuse to submit shots to them and refuse assingments, they cannot understand why.

Usually papers pay around $25.00, unless it is something spectacular.
A friend of mine once shot a plane crash in mid air, the local paper
paid him $2000.00 for that shot.
