$99.00

Wasn't this flash like $79.00 3 months ago?

Yep, I bought a couple at that time. :D

This has been answered in every thread about the 383 - they're the same power, just don't have a zoom head! Not an issue of you're going to be firing them into an umbrella.

Actually this could be a problem if firing into an umbrella.

If the beam is too wide it will spill past the umbrella lip (shoot through). To remedy this using the 383 you can just choke up on the umbrella shaft (why does that sound so nasty?)

Franko, you will find that it's hard to spill the light past an umbrella with a 35mm-wide beam. And the solution is simple - much simpler than if you had too-narrow a beam.

No prob - most people can't see past the 37m Guide No, but don't realize that it's at 35mm coverage. The 580 EX has a 58m GN, but it's at 105mm coverage.

Hard, but not impossible (imagine a 30 something inch umbrella). Just putting that info out there just in case anyone wonders. Your right the solution is rather simple, but to have a solution there must be a problem ;)

The Sunpak is a great flash as Im sure you know, I just like people to have all the facts before a purchase.

Personally, I just spend a tad more and get Canon flash units that can work with each other or a ST-E2. They work in sunlight....just not reliably...heh heh. They zoom AND swivel, and are plentiful in supply.
Just my preference though....:)

For it to be a problem, there must be no solution. Is there's a solution, it must only be an obstacle. :D

No doubt good flashes with nice features, but for the budget minded photographer you could get 2 383s, adapters, umbrellas and lightstands for the price of 1 Canon flash and thats for the older model Canons (i.e. 430ex)

I'd rather have FOUR Sunpaks than only one 580EXII for my off-camera work...

Forgot to mention I like ETTL too....one of the main reasons I stick with Canon. I've dropped them, kicked them, but never drop kicked them....heh heh.
