While bike riding with my daughter at a local park, I heard the "chip" call of this bird. Funny thing is that the day before we heard a different call in the evening and while listening to a CD of calls to see what it might be, I heard both the Northern and Louisiana calls. It pays to learn the songs. ;-)a

This guy was fairly skittish while bobbing like a spotted sandpiper in the shallow, shale bed creek. I was able to get two similar shots of him on this branch before he flew down the creek. I followed and got close, but it was evening and the light was tough for a handheld 100-400 with a 1.4 TC.

Very nice! Good composition. I really like watching these birds and their tail-bobbing movements!

Great shot of a nervous bird.

There's nothing that gets me and my birding friends at odd with each other more than Louisana vs. Northern. Of course, I'm the expert and you do have a nice Louisana Waterthrush.

Thanks Bob. This was really my first opportunity to see one. Luckily he was still there the day after we spooked him on our bikes.

Thanks for the confirmation RH! I wondered if anyone would question the ID too. I was pretty sure it was Louisiana. ;-)a

Thanks Stephen. Sometimes I get lucky when I push the shutter. The other shot I got at this location had his tail down over the branch, so it wasn't as nice.
