I'm kicking around the idea of a larger umbrella, most probably a 60", but then I saw this one - anyone here using one? I'm wondering how manageable it is, and of course, what the light is like. :)

Currently using 43" umbrellas on location, and 53" Octa and smaller softboxes in the studio...

I have used both the 60" and the 86" Westcott umbrellas.

The 60" would be great as a fill (if you need one) while using your octa in the studio. It is also good as a single light source when you are on location with a good amount of ambient light.

The 86" umbrella I have used mainly as a diffuser when I am shooting outside. It's easier to have a groomsmen hold an umbrella then it is a Scrim Jim.

Hope this helps.

I hadn't thought of that! Great idea!

Rudi, have you investigated this gargantuan Photek umbrella:

The articulated shaft is a clever design feature.
