I'm interested in upgrading from my 20D to a 40D. I am also aware of the 40D rebate. Does anyone know where I can buy the 40D body only at a great price. I'm looking to spend under $900 for just the body.

Not sure you will be able to get it under $900, especially when you factor in shipping. As usual, B&H has one of the better prices around (link above).

US1Camera has it at $910, but most places are in the $935-940 range right now. If you buy it with the 28-135, you may be able to sell off the lens and get under the $900 mark. Amazon has this combo at $1130 or so, sell the lens for a net of $280 to you, and you would be under $900.

there are so many 28-135 on the market right now so if you dont want to go through the trouble i would just get the body only. the BH price is really good and they are a great retailer.

Doesn't matter, each and every one that goes on the market between the price tag of $250 to $350 sells. It is a very popular lens. The market bears this model right now. List it as brand-new on Ebay for $340 w/free shipping w/copy of the receipt, and it will go within 24-48 hours. Shipping fees of $10 within the US, ebay fees of around $18-20, paypal fees of $10, and you net $300. If the goal is to reduce exposure by $60 or so, this is a practical way to do it.

However Canoga is out of stock... and with shipping, total is probably around the $935 that you can get from buydig.com with free shipping and a 2gb sandisk card, as one example of alternatives.

Try a search from the following link - Live Search Cashback. You should be able to find a 40D priced somewhere around $935 with 2% or more off.

Looks like a 60 day rebate program, but interesting nonetheless.

just curious if you have any new experience with us1 photo...as i had to look back and find this response to when i didn't think it was a scam site...i'm still wondering myself as it does seem to have lower prices...but i haven't tried em

Still a gamble, and yes I read them, and still I would not be comfortable handing them my credit card info, not to mention over $1K in funds. I would rather buy used from POTN and FM members, than us1.

Looks like some folks are happy, and others get that upsell. Doesn't sound half as bad as those other brooklyn sites. It is most likely fine, as long as you turn down any upsells if they tell you to call your order confirmation in. I would still feel better if I had one of those credit cards that gave me a one-time usage number for a purchase.

yeah i'm not looking to buy anything right now...but i think next time i may look into them depending on price difference from them and b&h...if it's just a couple bucks, it doesn't really seem worth it

Thanks everyone! I'll make evaluate all options and make a decision soon. I like Conoga Cameras because it's right around the corner from me. No shipping is required.

photoman,
The best legit price I have seen for the 40d body only is $899.95(buy it now price from cameta camera 1-800-991-3350) they are located in Amityville, New York and are a Canon authorized dealer. The total price with shipping($24)= $923.95. I have purchased several cameras and items and everything I have ordered and received has been fine. I know Canoga camera has excellent prices , but if you live in California like I do you are required to pay the sales tax, which for me adds an extra 8.25% on to the total purchase price. I also agree, if you are looking for the cheapest legit price on the 40d I would purchase the 40d/w 28-135mm lens at Amazon for $1118 with free shipping and sell the lens for about $300 if you don't want to keep the lens then your net cost will be approximately $818. Good luck, glenphoto
