Hi everyone

Just need some help.

Im in the market to buy a remote control.. So theres no hand shake when i take photos.. Mostly long exposure.. So need to make sure theres no shake at all..

Theres a canon RE-60E3 which seems like a simple remote.. I think its priced at 39 dollars.. Yet a ebay looking one(http://cgi.ebay.com.au …ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (external link)), is only 7 bucks!!!!!

Big difference in price!!

But since my main aim is wanting to get into more low light.. i would like a remote to take exposures more than what the camera can do.. something like more than 2mins etc..

Budget, most likley 50 bucks max if possible..

What would you recommened?

Thanks for the help

I went with the 803n model. Canon's latest most advance model. I can't recall the model number. I figured get it in one shot and be done with it. I only know how to press the button. lol.

But how long exposures can you do with that remote?

Go to this site (POTN) at the top of this page, says store is open. Look there for the extendable remote release. My wife and I both have them, add in a stereo wire of whatever length for getting away from the camera and tripod. I use mine with 100 feet of stereo wire, set the tripod up close to a birds nest, get away in the brush and take pics of the birds leaving and entering the nests. Works great, and when my new remote cable end went bad, I contacted the store and they sent a new end, no charge even for shipping and no questions asked. Great service for a great product, and cheaper than the Canon one piece non extendable. I cant say enough good about the products I have bought from potn, and I am just a forum member, not a staffer.

Please speak slowly and distinctly. I have a wife and a computer, I don't need any more confusion in my life.

I actually just picked up a Phottix Cleon wireless / wired remote a couple of weeks ago for my Digital Rebel XTi... and am just loving it.

Phottix Wireless Remote discussion here (more can be found via searching):

Here's one of the reviews with video and description of the different remotes and capabilities

http://www.dpnotes.com/phottix-cleon-canon/ (external link)

Here's the store where I bought mine (the C6 version... there is a C8 version as well for other models listed in the above review)...

So far so good... cheap price, works perfect... no complaints for this user. :)

Cheers for info :)

Just checked it out and they shop is based in america :( Wonder how much shipping would be to aus..

medic583 - that looks pretty cool!! thanks for those links :)

But what i really wanted to know is; is there a difference between that canon remote i posted in first post and the ebay link. Both seem to do the same job? Except one is 39 dollars and the other 7 dollars. ta

FYI there is not difference between the Canon and eBay ones in the end result. I had both and I am now using the eBay model since I sold the 'real' one.

If you want the model with more features (exposure brackething, timer, etc.) it is even better to go with the eBay model since it will make you save about 200$...

Canon is really over charging for these puppies!

The only difference is in the built quality, the Canon model was a bit smaller and had a better felt to it when I pressed the shutter. That is it! But my eBay model comes with a 5m cable...

There is an article with picture about it somewhere on my blog in the gear section.

Very happy with mine.

Did you purchase one yet? I am looking for one to go with my XSi. If you did, I'd love to hear about it and the seller if you recommend the product. There are quite a few of them available on ebay, so any help is appreciated.

I purchased 2 of those cheapies on ebay. Haven't really used them but Idid try it out and it seemed to work fine. Its nothing more than a couple of contacts. Its built kind of cheap but for the price you can't go wrong.

Hi all....I'm a newbie to this forum. I'm also an amature when it comes to photography but I'm living proof that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. :-) I have a question about Remote Controls. I just upgraded from a 300d to the 450d. I have the Canon cable remote control but would lke to go with a wireless one. Is there one that actually works from my being BEHIND the camera instead of having to be in front of it like the infared remote? Thanks for your help. I look forward to using this forum. I'm sure I'll have many "questions" in the future that I'll need help with.

I just bought a wireless remote from Ebay for about $25. There are several "brands". Most are made in China and sold from Hong Kong. The one I got was branded "Aputure". You'll see lots of mention on POTN about Phottix. My guess is that they are all quite similar.

Mine works like a charm. It says it will work from up to 30 meters, but I've only tried it from about 30 ft. so far. I'm looking forward to trying this out with our bird feeder soon: sit inside with camera on tripod near the feeder and snap when birds are there.

Canon 5D MIV, EF 24-105mm f/4L, Sigma 105mm F/2.8 Macro, Canon R6, RF 24-105mm f/4L, RF 100-400mm F/5.6-8, RF 800mm F/11, 580EX-II and some other stuff
