Personally, IMHO the photograph needs more detail to keep my interest as its complete white and black. I don't care about rules, just what looks good and in the end any photo's success is in the eyes of the viewer.

As we see, those opinions are quite mixed.

And as to the title, To make this a panorama detail would have helped. It looks more like a B&W negative that was cropped to the current dimensions.

My definition would classify this as art, not a panoramic photograph.

So why not classify it as panoramic art? ;-)a

Detail can be over rated, minimilism gives the viewer much more imagiantive-vision...you're right though, that works for some and not for others.

In the end it's the artist who does the work for himself. Belief of what "is" VS Vision.

not a big fan. the symmetry isn't what makes it blah to me, it's the blandness of the outlined subject. a cool-looking tree would've been better. shel silverstein and the giving tree pops into my mind for some reason haha.

I can see what you went for here but it is totally bland. There is nothing that makes it interesting because your eyes look for some and doesn't see it in your picture.

Yes rules are meant to be broken but you cannot break a rule if you do not understand it. One thing I would have done is defined your picture a bit more when posting on a forum so add some sort of border and try a different composition.

Hi I would like to see a symetrical effect sort almost as if the tree is reflected in a lake but make the 'reflection' negative...? I don't know maybe that wouldn't work but thought I would share anyway!

I have been watching your work for a while with interest and you seem to lean to the artsy side of things very heavily. I like how you have posted pictures that I never would have though of taking and that has helped me "train" my eye to other options so to speak. I did not like your other "all black or all white" photo but this one works for me. The problem with photos like this is they seem to either be loved or hated, there is no middle ground. You seem to be able to accept the fact that not everyone will like your work and continue to produce interesting images. Keep up the great work.

Dave

What? Where's my rusty chairs?;)

I like the concept, but not the subject, in this case a very shaggy shrub,.I agree about a tree or something with a tad more definition to take up the visual slack on the negative space?

Keep on going, you are on the right track:D

Rules are meant to be broken, absolutely, but in this case it doesn't do anything for me. Too much "nothing".

Nicely done. I would get your black/white center line more centered but I wouldn't worry about going to thirds. I could totally see that on a large 5 foot canvas print. By the way, when you getting that Flickr account? ;)

I think it may be time to explain myself... I am absolutely fascinated with pre history and early human history… specifically, what caused us to become the sentient beings we are today instead of living like all the other animals in the forest… I created this because I believe that jump was made with the simple observation of choice, observing two different but equal things and consciously picking one way, instead of just blindly following what our instincts told us to do… in this case either light or dark… I chose the little “shrub” because I believe Humans fist choice must have been something simple: to kill or not to kill, to rest or to push on, etc, which eventually evolved us into the picture taking monkeys we are today  but seriously, this picture is all about choice. You either love it or hate it.
