Guys,

I'm now planning on buying an external flash, possibly one of the Speedlite range. Someone in my photography club warned me that the hot shoe connections get very hot when using external flashes. Can someone please confirm if this is the case.

Thanks in advance,
Jen

Hmmm, I've never noticed that with my XTI and 430ex. And I use it on a cord mostly. I would know if it got hot.

If you must know...

I've never had an issue, albeit I rarely use an external flash.

I've never had the problem either. Hot batteries and hot flash head (don't fire too many flash shots in a row or you can melt your flash head) i've heard of, but i think someone maybe pulling your leg.

I use a hot shoe flash, 580EXII on a Mark III, every weekend night to shoot 200-300/photos per night and have never experienced a hot shoe connection. This remark is rubbish!

thedash71,
Nope the hot shoe doesn't get hot in temperature,
it does get hot in voltage to trigger the flash :)

Thanks for the input guys, I too myself thought this to be rubbish but wasn't totally sure as I've yet to experience an external flash.

As I only have a £200 budget for the flash, I'm pretty much sold on the Speedlite 430EX.

The 430EX is a great little flash.
