This is my first post...

I have a very brand new SD1000 and I am really impressed so far with the every day point and shoot capabilities of this thing!

I am trying to photograph some of my printed design work for a portfolio and I am looking for some advice on how to configure the camera best for table top photographs. Camera settings, lighting tips, etc.

I have a tripod.

Here are a few samples of my very first experiments. Please excuse my lack of photographic technical know-how:

This is the look I am going for but the image is coming across rather underexposed and a bit blurry using the macro setting. I have seem some really great macro shots on this forum, so I know this can get better.

This is again the look I am after, but again, blurry and a bit dark. Using the macro and no tripod on this one just experimenting.

This is getting there, but again I think it can get much better. Things seem lit fairly OK, but a bit blurry still. Macro mode here hand held.

Any advice to help me make these better would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Use Exposure Compensation (dial in some '+' EC) to alleviate the underexposure, and use your self-timer along with the tripod minimize shake.

Self timer and tripod. The flash on those things is no good for macro in my experience, so you'll want to find another source of lighting, and of course a tripod and self timer.
