Just wondering, does anyone have a good supplier of frames, mattes and backing materials?

I am about to place an order at matshop.ca to see what they have... but pickin's are pretty slim here in Canada.

Usually I just shop online in the US and have the items shipped to Ogdensburg then I drive down and pick them up.

Any suggestions of places to check out would be more than welcome!

Thanks,

Joe

I use 'Documounts.com', but I don't know if they ship to Canada.

Hi,

I've gotten a lot of mats in bulk from Matcutter.com

Not the cheapest, but their museum mats are high quality. You can get a reasonable per unit price on custom cuts, so long as you need a bunch the same size.

There are quite a few online places to get frames and mats now. I've always bought frames locally And I really haven't been buying a lot of either frames or mats the last year or so.

Joe,

We buy matboard locally from Deserres, there's one in Ottawa and they are online too (http://www.deserres.ca/ (external link)). I'd say buy full sheets of matboard, get a good Logan cutter that will allow you to cut accurately & quickly and whip off the mats you need.

For backing material try http://Crystal Clear Bags (external link). They also have mats.

For black painted wooden frames (my standard for framing) we set up a deal with a local frame shop where we get frames at wholesale since the framing shop buys direct from the mill. You could try to find a local shop who is willing to do the same.

Then there's Triple Touch Moulding (external link), they are wholesale manufacturer. If you are framing & reselling you could likely get set up with them though I'm not sure what minimums they might have. They pretty well can supply everything you need.

Good luck,
Lindsey

Thanks Lindsey.. Yup, clear-bags are my friends... I buy s a few thousand of those every quarter as I use them to pack prints inside the photo mailer... never know when it will rain or snow here.. ;)

I'll check out that place you listed... I want to start offering the frame and matting... but as always, I want the best quality at the best price for my 'our' clients!

Try Michel Company. I don't know if they ship to Canada, but they're in Northern IL, so I don't see why they wouldn't. Wouldn't hurt to call and ask!
