I've seen some photographers that has a computer hooked up to their camera and after each shot it displays on the computer.

How can I do this with my 40D and a laptop running windows XP, Photoshop, lightroom and Canon Software?

Do I need a special cable?
I would like to have the pictures transfer immediately after I take the shot to a program like Adobe lightroom or something else.

Use the USB cable provided with your camera. Hook it up to your laptop and use the Canon Utilities program. You can control your camera at the camera or with your laptop. Just make sure that you have a long enough USB cable as not to be tripping over it all the time.

It's that simple?

I can use any mini USB to USB cables for my camera right?

Is there a place to download the Canon software? I think I might of misplaced my CD.

When you got your camera there was a cable that you can use to attach the camera to the computer. Just use that.

Something else you can do is link to a TV and they can view images on there as well. I used that before and shocked the crap out of the family. That's a nice little feature. Keep in mind, though, that, depending on the TV's resolution, the image won't be as sharp as it actually is.
