I was taking some photos while sailing yesterday so I wanted to use a CPF with the hood on my 100-400.
How do you adjust the filter with the hood on? Anybody have an idea?

Ouch! That's a little too drastic for me.

I was thinking of doing that but feared losing the lens overboard if we hit a wave. I finally just adjusted it as best I could in portrait postition, stuck the hood back on and kept it that way. It would have been nice to have the ability to adjust it.

I would hope that the lens was attached to the camera which was on a strap around your neck. As far as losing the hood overboard, I find I can slip mine onto my wrist like a bracelet while I'm adjusting the filter and then slip it back onto the lens. John

Yes, I was wearing a neck strap. I'll have to see if the hood will fit over my fat hands, that's an excellent idea! Thanks for the suggestion.

Actually, I've seen some of the finished products...they look really good and are functional. There's either a thread on here or on the Fred Miranda site with detailed pics. I'm sure that you can find it on google if you're curious. "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son". - Dean Wormer
