I am looking for the most efficient way to add company logos to a lot of photos a the same time. I was using the copy paste method for my actions but I needed to add more than one logo to each photo. I created a new image file with the logos i needed to add all in one picture so it would actually work that way. the problem I am having with that same method now is that i have to go in and delete all the background of the image with the logos to get my original image to show though. that process takes a lot of time in my action and it would greatly reduce the time if i could save the logo image without a background. how would i do this? does it have to be a photoshop file? or can i do it as a jpeg or gif or anything? Also in the batch processing screen i choose save and close but it asks me what quality of jpeg to save it as after every photo. i am trying to reduce time as much as possible and when i click the action i just want it to go, i dont want to have to click ok after each photo to save it. I want it to save over the original files which this method does, but i want it to save without me telling it to. any help?

Save your logo as a brush. Select it and go to Edit | Define brush preset... in CS3.

Create a new action that adds a new layer and paints your brush logo on to it using the colour you want it to be. Link the two layers together. Select Layer | Align... Bottom edges and then Layer | Align... right edges. Change the opacity of the logo if you want. Stop the action.

Now go to File | Scripts and Image Processor. You can resize your images here AND run the watermark action on all your images :-)

The problem you may get is the SIZE of the brush so choose this when you select the brush. The logo won't fit any old size of image. Therefore create a small, medium and large size actions for the small, medium and large size images. If you always run this action on your original size images and use the image processor to resize them then you will only need the one action.

Typically PS actions/macros will be applied to all images in a folder. So you'd run the Macro on each folder (Copy/Paste the address from Explorer.)

Bridge > Tools > Photoshop > Image processor.
Remove the "save" from the action itself.

I had exactly the same issue as you - always getting the JPEG compression dialog for all the images during an AUTOMATE/BATCH action (apply watermark). I got the technique from the book "Photoshop CS for Photographers".

Water mark looks great, batch application not so much. I am still trying to find a workaround to this. My action list does not include a "Save" in it, just ends with the final watermark'd layer being added to each image.

The action itself works, (pressing Shift-F12 for example) to any loaded image. Applying that in a batch process does not.

I'm frustrated too!

Any experts here?!

If you are using PSCS2 or PSCS3:

Bridge > Tools > Photoshop > Image processor.

Otherwise: Post the step by step of the action.
It should work.

What happens if you choose "save and close" as "destination" in the batch dialog?

Interesting, Bridge has been recently un-installed - arg to save disk space. I didn't know I really needed it. Hadn't used it at all! Just used Canon's software to get my RAW off the disk, then simple OPEN CR2 files within PS.

However, I've tried the "save and close" as destination in the dialog, and no, that didn't work. Asked for "compression" amount/ quality of JPEG etc. as OP states also.

I'm going to try this from scratch again tonight, with a folder full of JPG(not CR2 RAWS) and try another watermarking action. If I can't get that to work, I'll post my action list.

OK, success at last. Sorry, I was not familiar with "Image Processor" (right below Batch) - much simpler setup and worked flawlessly on entire Folders etc.

So, why dpo we use BATCH then if ImageProcessor can do all the Action steps too??

Thanks
