small softbox for flash

Are these any good/useful

I've ordered a similar but slightly larger one for a bit less money. I only placed the order on Friday so it won't be arriving for a while yet.

I think these things could help out for fairly close subjects but for anything too distant they will make relatively little difference to the shadows and will suck flash power and drain batteries and increase recycle times.

Have a look at this review of the Lastolite Micro Apollo, which is a similar device. The review is of the model which is the same size as the one I bought. They do larger versions but not smaller. There might be a message there...

Yeah its for close subjects to try and reduce harsh shadows.

At any reasonable distance it won't make much difference to the shadows. I have a lumiquest softbox that size and there is little to no noticeable difference until you get very close. What it is useful for is reducing red-eye when using the flash on-camera and that's just about the only reason I ever use it.
