I always see this happening, today I saw this juxtaposition and was finally able to capture it in a photo which I think says everything we all think at some point.

This was shooting the Red Bull Air Race, with planes... very far away.

I hate to say this, but observing the gentlemen's technique, and technical knowledge in the background, likely came out pretty close.

Shooting at low res in high speed crop mode on a D2x, and just holding the shutter button down CONSTANTLY, burning through 6,000 shutter actuations in the time I did 600 (and I thought I was being ridiculous, and I was...)

Another guy asked the Nikon shooter some questions about why the Canon user with a 600mm w/1.4x on a Mark II (and press pass) behind me had such a setup, and then proceeded to answer COMPLETELY wrong every way possible was quite disappointing.

No disrepect to either, they were both nice people. And I'm sure by shear probability he got some great ones.
