I'm going to pull the trigger on a 70-200 2.8 IS from B&H.
They have 5 options for shipping. Any Canadians have words of wisdom on which one is best any why?

I agree with scokar, go with UPS expedited.

You should note that if you order over the internet, B&H will only ship to your credit card billing address (likely your home). If you call in your order you may be able to arrange for shipment to another address such as your work location.

If you haven't visited this website, Photoprice.ca I recommend that you visit it (www.photoprice.ca (external link)). There is a lot of good information about shipping, taxes and duties.

Great information.

Yup, yup.... I got $6500 worth of stuff and only paid $108 total with brokerage fees (on a 33 lb oversize package). Had I gone the other ways, I would've paid out the nose. I once bought a $200 lens and ended up paying $45 in brokerage fees (on top of $25 shipping) from FedEx.

Wow you guys are surprising.. I never, ever use UPS. It is always USPS or Fed Ex. UPS is the one who tacks on the extra $30-$45 brokerage fee when the company doesn't use the special borderfree shipping methods. (I once paid $40 to receive a wedding gift -- a hand knit blanket from a relative that she sent via UPS and happened to mark the value at $100)

If you check out your order price on Adorama, their cost for Fed Ex overnight is usually only $5 higher than UPS, not twice the price as B&H seems to be quoting.

You are right. Shipping from Adorama is $58.20 for FedEx International Priority . B&H is $93. I wonder if B&H offsets the price of the item and puts it into the shipping charge.

Only FedEx and UPS ground tack on brokerage fees.

They're included for all other FedEx/UPS service classes.

Yeah... the last package I had from FedEx came via ground. I'm not saying that they always charge brokerage, just that you have to be careful no matter who you go with.

But UPS is the only one with a class-action in progress against them for hidden brokerage charges:

Maybe because they hide it and bill you later while Fed Ex lets the shipper/receiver know first?

Nope, not in my case ... I wasn't made aware of the brokerage fee by KEH and nothing showed on the invoice that was emailed. Basically, my wife ended up paying it out of cash lying around othrwise I wasn't getting my stuff.

Oh yes, FedEx is (was?) getting sued too ...

These suits are relating to the hidden brokerage charges in their ground services -- just go with non-ground service and you'll be fine.

Oh I see, thanks. I would always choose USPS for ground when available, not Fed-Ex, so I never got hit with their charge.

Is this the "International Express Mail" option that B&H lists?
