I'm looking for a backpack

I'm sorry to have to do this, but this is a last resort. I've been looking for hours for a new bag and have nothing. I want a bag that is comfortable and fits all of my gear that I have now and another lens or two. I was looking at the Nature Trekker, Kata R-103 and the Canon 200 EG. I need a bag that can take a little bit of a beating. Any help and maybe some reviews of the above bags would be extremely helpful. Thanks.

I like my Mini-Trekker. It is airlines carry-on legal and still holds a decent amount of equipment.

As an example, for an upcoming Aaska trip, I am carrying two cameras (10D and 30D) and four lenses (12-24mm Tokina, 17-55mm f/2.8 IS, 70-200mm f/4L IS and 300mm f/4L IS) along with a TC and the standard memory cards, batteries and filters. These all fit inside the bag - a bit tight but, they fit. I will carry a 550ex flash in the outside compartment.

The bag is made very well and if I remember, I selected this over some other brands because it was lightest in weight for its size. I don't remember which bags I compared this to.

I have looked at the Kata backpack online because it has an accessory set of wheels which might make dragging it through airports easier. However, I cannot determine from the illustrations on the Kata web site if my equipment would fit. I emailed Kata asking the question a week or so ago but, have not received a rply. I will save my money and use the Mini-Trekker for the trip.

While I don't own it, I've heard the Kata R-103 is an excellent bag and I really liked it when I saw it at the local shop. As for durability, Kata also makes ballistic and tactical vests, so I trust they make a decent camera bag.

The LowePro Mini Trekker is an awesome backpack. It's not the deepest so it won't hold a 1Dxxx or gripped body well (though it can, if somewhat tight)... But otherwise, the features and form factor are excellent for the money.

I have the Kata R-102 and love it. I believe that only difference from the R-103 and the R-102 is that the R-103 can hold a laptop and the R-102 can't. I have all my gear in the bag right now but is very tight. I will probably buy another Kata bag when that times come because I like this one so well. Seriously consider buying one. I was lucky and picked my up on e-bay used for $70.

whats your budget? that can narrow down the many, many, many options upon options... if your budget is permitting the thinktankphoto bags are great... i have one of their backpacks, i love it and i travel a lot... its super light and comfy, and fits a lot of lenses standing up (i have the littlest one and my 17-40, 100 macro, 430ex all stand) - an important space saver to look for in a backpack - its nice and rugged too

I think it's down to the mini trekker and the kata 103. I've read a good amount of reviews on the 200eg and i think it is just too weak of a design. Prove me wrong please, someone! I don't really want to spend $150, but if I know it will last me, then I will.

I would love to have a bag that fits all of these plus another 2 or 3 lenses. I want it to be comfortable to take on a hike, but also fit everything and not dig into my shoulders too much.

I wore my R-102 around southern GA and FL last month in 95+ F heat and it was a dream to wear. It should fit what you list and is amazingly tough and comfortable. It also has a camera strap built in to the shoulder straps that is ideal for walk-around use. I walked around Savannah, 95F, for 6 hours with my gripped 20D with the 24-60 and 430EX attached and my neck had absolutely no strain on it. You barley even notice it on your shoulders. It also does a great job of keeping a big part of the bag surface off of your back, which keeps you much cooler.

I've got the Tamrac Expedition 5. Holds everything in my sig. It's well-made and and comfortable.

The only problem with the r-103 that I am seeing is that it is really shallow.

Someone just pmed me and said that they would sell me this "rebranded (Quantaray) Naneu U120" for 60+shipping an pp fees. I'm still kind of leaning towards the mini trekker.

Any comments on the Canon 200 EG?
