i'll give you that, it's definately a thinking mans game, and where i don't consider myself unintelligent by any stretch, i just cant get over the slow pace

If you understand pitching, then baseball is not slow-paced or boring. There is a pitch every 10-15 seconds and each one has a purpose (or at least it does when a half-way decent pitcher on the mound). If you do not understand pitching, and you think it is just something that happens in between the action, then I guess it may seem boring - but you would certainly be missing out!

there's USUALLY a pitch every 10-15 seconds. and that's still a 10-15 second break after EVERY pitch that takes what, 1/2 a second to get from the mound to the plate? what other game is that slow? in my eyes football is probably the most thought provoking game. there are more players, and each player has many more options on what to do/where to go etc. it's not always the same number of guys in the same places doing the same things.

in baseball you stand in your spot, and either wait for the ball to come to you, catch it and then throw it to one of 5 or 6 people, then your part is over. wait some more. it seems to me football, basketball, soccer (not a huge soccer fan either, but...), hockey, etc etc are all more active/physically demanding and more demanding of the players attention. JMHO, but baseball being our national pastime is like a slap in the face to the real athletes . if fat guys can play, it's not a sport

How many games do football players play each year....um 16 + playoffs if they make it...how many games do baseball players play each year...162 + playoffs...how long is a regulation football game...60min, plus halftime...one 9 inning baseball game on average is probably around 2 hrs 45 min or more...to say that is not "physically" demanding is just ignorant. Baseball probably requires the most endurance/longetivity than any other sport. It dosen't matter if the guys weighs 180 lbs or 280 lbs, when the ball comes his way, he still has to make the play. And trust me, EVERY guy out there gets his fair share of Action. And to say if fat guys can play then it isn't a sport...explain to me 300lb linemen in football?!?!?!

I am starting to think that your little league coach cut you from the team so you have had a grudge ever since....

haha, i played like 2 seasons of little league... then i realized it sucked

but do you know why there are only 16 games in a football season? because if they played many more the players would be too beat up the time they're 30 to walk. baseball players can play 100+ games in a season because of how little physical exertion they have to worry about. so they throw what, 50 balls, catch a few and run a total of 1 mile over the course of 2 hours? yeah, real strenuous ;)

anyways, enough arguing, thanks for the few kind comments on the pics. agree to disagree? i dont see any other way around it

Bill Parcells is an NFL (USA football) coach, not baseball. That quote is actually about the replacement players that were brought in during an NFL player's strike in 1987. ;)

Yep, baseball is a slow thinking mans sport.

I guess golf is really a sucky sport, they put a ball on a stick and it just lays there to be hit. Damn thing doesn't ever move.

Hockey has some action, lowest TV ratings of all the sports.

Basketball sucks, any 6'8" guys with 5 foot arms can dunk.

Soccer, yaaaaaaaaaaaaawn, game tied nil nil. Right up there with Curling, Chess,

I guess that leaves football. Also a crappy sport to watch, tv timeouts, going to a NFL game is like watching paint dry. Maybe one or two good plays a game, MAYBE!!

I guess I like baseball. Because I maybe that fat beer drinking guy someday and might want to try out for a MLB team.

you don't like timeouts but when the catcher and coach walk to the mound 3 times in an inning thats ok?

Football is America's sport. Period. Hockey is actually pretty awesome IMO, constant action for 60 minutes. Heck, they don't even stop to make subsitutions. (oh, and the Redwings are going down, DDCSD)

I'm an avid golfer, but it can be difficult to watch on TV, especially if Tiger isn't playing or playing well. Majors are the exception. Baseball is too boring for me, yet I love softball. Something about girls makes them more entertaining that tobacco chewing guys.

And seriously, why would anyone even bring up soccer in a converstion about sports? If someone comes even close to hitting someone, that person will fall to the ground crying trying to get a penalty called. Then the fans talk about how tough and manly that guy is when he comes back to play. You foreigners can keep your "football" for yourselves.

Averagejoe, I actually find curling to be very entertaining, thank you.

And to be somewhat on-topic, nice job on the pics Mitch, considerting you were in the upper deck.

As a former professional athlete, I appreciate all sports because there's always more going on than meets the eye. Baseball may not have the continuous action of the other sports you mentioned, but it is physically and mentally demanding - something someone who spent two years in Little League picking flowers in rightfield wouldn't understand. :p
