However, a lot of macro photography of living creatures is done hand held. This is my setup which I learned from Dr. Deepak Rao of Bangalore, India. Dr. Rao is one of the best macro photographers that I know.

I know Deepak Rao, I happened to know him through Bangalore Photography Club.

His Photographs are Awesome :)

Thanks for the suggestion and I will definately research on what will work for me.

Bogen is a distributor and not a mfg brand. I presume you mean manfrotto. That said, manfrotto, Gitzo and Bogen are all owned by the same company (the Vitec Group (external link))

I was hoping that you people would be smart enough to figure that out without an explanation. I went off of RICHNY's post
"Skip those and go for a Bogen 3021 or 055." thanks for the "clarification" .

Hello All,

A Good Tripod and Head Should:

Set up in seconds, without fiddling.
Hold its position no matter what the angle of the camera.
Be completely field cleanable.
Go from ground level to full height without compromise.
Lock all positions securely enough that you're comfortable walking away from the tripod even on windy days.
Be able to follow action and still provide support.
Resist all attempts to bend and break.
Allow the camera to go from horizontal to vertical orientation instantly.
Be dragged over rocks, through mud, sit in the ocean, or any other environment you want to shoot in, and show nothing more than a few scratches for the effort
Be light enough to always carry with you.
Be heavy enough to hold your heaviest lens and body secure in the worst possible conditions and at the worst possible angle.

How does the Bogen / Manfrotto055XPROB Pro Tripod Legs (Black) with 488RC2 Midi Ballhead (Quick Release) perform in the above criteria ?
