Would anyone like a crystal?

Here are some shots of giant quartz crystals found in the Alps a few years ago. In the first shot, it is over 100cm long. The story is quite interesting.

One of the biggest alpine clefts never met in the Alps was discovered in 1994 on the Planggenstock mount, Göschenen valley, Canton of Uri, Switzerland, by Franz von Arx and Paul von Känel who exploited it during 12 years. Measuring approximately 40 meters deep, this one delivered diverse cavities with large-sized crystals of smoky quartz. During summer 2006, an impressive group is extracted and transported by helicopter !

They are now exhibited in an old church in Fluelen.

The website is unfortunately in German, but you can find some shots with people next to them to have an idea of the size. (www.riesenkristalle.ch (external link)) They are really impressive!

Theme: Incredible...
Technique: Very good. Lateral lighting helped a lot to get those interesting shadows.

Thanks. I had no influence on lighting. It was in a museum. But the great lighting did really help ;-)a
