I bought a 30D to complement my 5D for the extra reach and the faster frames per second. Do others like this combo also?:lol::lol:

I've thinking in doing the same but I'm hesitating to do it because of the possibility that the 30D will lie in the bag all the time.

I use my 20D to complement my 5D all the time - the handling is so similar, and
I can have two different lenses
ready at a moments notice(great for street/festival shooting-16-35 on 20D and
70-200 on 5D)

Why not just crop the 5D images, effective resoltion will remain very simular to using the 8MP cropped frame camera.

Not true. You will have something little under 6MP and resolution will be missing.

It's fake reach.

Hmmm didn't do the math on it, I remember this one coming up on the GKPE thread with the exact same two cameras.

EDIT, just did the maths and you are right on that one in fact I got something closer to 5MP!

Naaah...I prefer the 10D/20D/30D/1DMKII/1DMKIII combo to compliment the 5D!:lol:

Actually it's the perfect combo since they are so alike.

Actually a 1.6 crop of a 1DS MK3 is the same as a 30D :D

I had a 30D to start, just picked up the 5D a few weeks ago. So far I love the combo. Still trying to figure out how I'm going to carry both camera's around comfortably (while not in my bag) but I don't regret the decision one bit!

I just sold my 40D because of this, I NEVER used it. I might pick up a refurb 30D in the future, at least then it won't depreciate so much.

That's exactly what I do, except I still have the 20D vs. 30D for the reach.

Fake?

5d, 1dmk2, 30d, and 400d starting from left.

Now the reach is not coz of FF vs crop, it is due to pixel density. That is why 100% crop from 5d and 1dmk2 look almost the same as they same pixel density.

I use the 5D/20D combo all the time. I love the 20D for telephoto and some macro shots where it's tough to get close to the subject. The 30D would be even better. I usually carry both with me, and most often, both are around my neck. The biggest problem with that is one rubbing against the other creating scratches, marks, etc. It's not an issue to me; I'll keep both until they die and can't be fixed and then upgrade. It would be an issue if I wanted to sell one down the road.

I would think the 5D/30D would be an excellent FF/crop combo. Controls are nearly identical, batteries are the same etc... Of course I'm saying this not actually owning a 5D as I have the 40D to go with my 30D instead.
