Hello All!

I've been taking pictures of my friends for their college suites, and also roommate pictures. Finding ways to pose the big groups is easy, or at least seemingly easy when no one is judging me, but when it comes to the roommate shots things get awkward. How do I pose two girls together without making them look like lovers?

I would love photos for examples!

Ok, well, I want the girls to be close, and look like friends, but then they get confused about how to pose. Do these pictures help at all? maybe it's all in my head...

I think those pictures look fine. But if you were out at a party or out to dinner for someones birthday how would you all pose then? I think that would give it the more casual feel you are looking for. But I really have no clue :D

Lovers doesn't come to mind in the second one...I see more "sister" or "friend". The first one kind of has that feel to it though. My thoughts would be maybe some candids...them laughing, having a good time together, sitting back to back. maybe a less involved hug even.

jajajajajajaja.....

I have NEVER thought about that, shooting friends. But is true. Everything is in your mind... not about the pose. I think you should not tell the people to be shoot about that situation.... Otherwise they will feel very unconfortable about how to pose and not to seem to be lovers..... Let them be theirselves in a honest way.

I don't have examples, but I do have an anecdote.

Oh, some 20 years ago, my sister and I were getting our "Sears Best" photos done for our parents anniversary. It was about our 3rd pose which had us facing each other, my left/her right side to the camera. The photographer put my hand on her waist, and her hand on my shoulder. About that time it got too weird, and we told the photographer, "We are brother and sister, not husband and wife." She thought for about a half second, and said, "OK, Back to back".

Worked out to be the best shot of the batch, and the one my parents hung.

What about 'action' shots - skipping toward or away from the camera with linked elbows? Or maybe sitting back to back with knees drawn up - this would be close but not intimate.

I think it's all in your head. It's not like their lips are locked. :(

Here is a thread I started today with the same sort of question. I was trying to find info on here but found very little. There are a couple more examples and ideas on my thread that I liked. I too do not want the women I am shooting to look like lovers in their pictures.

let me know what else you find/think of and I will do the same.
