Long exposure with 20d - can you also use self timer?

Can you set a long (30 second+) exposure and also use the self timer to avoid shake? AKA a cheap alternative to the $20 remote shutter.

You can only go up to 30 seconds with the self timer, anything more requires a remote release cable to use the Bulb shutter setting.

You can go up to 30 seconds and use the self-timer. Beyond that, you'll want a shutter release cable.

OK, I feel a <rant> coming on. Given that all the info you get from any forum isn't always the best, why didn't you just try it & see if you could? ;)
