the long and short of it is that i may need to keep my spare gear in the car over a weekend while attending an event.

i was thinking of getting a peli 1500 or something and then anchoring it via the carry handle and a motorbike lock i have to something solid in the car.

are the handles strong enough to withstand attack do we think?

The handles are very strong but a hacksaw would make
short work of it.

Agreed. The whole case is VERY tough, but yea I think if they have enough time anyone could steal anything from your car. Certainly better than nothing though. Might buy the time for someone to catch the bad person or scare them off, or they might have forgotten to bring their hack saw and youd be alright. I recommend you look at the Pelcain 1514 from B&H for $155 by the way.

thats what i was thinking really, the case wouldnt be in sight first off itd be in the boot (trunk). the car would be slap bang in the middle of the event and there would always be people within a few meters..

You might just as well worry about someone taking a set of bolt cutters to the cable you use to anchor it, or the padlock you put on the case, as the handle.

either way theres going to be some risk.

Most thieves rely upon stealth and speed. Position your car so that your trunk can be seen easily. The lock, chain, cables etc. will encourage all but the most determined skum to bypass your property and onto something a bit more easy.

Rather than using a cable, get one of the highest quality U-shaped bike locks you can get. If you get a good one, they're very hard (although not impossible) to cut with bolt cutters. Our university police did a demonstration, and it took two of them about five minutes to get through one with a brand new set of bolt cutters, which would be more than enough time for someone to notice.

These are the two best, you should have a local bike shop with something along these lines.

Even the strongest lock in the world will not secure your case from the determined thief. They will go for the weakest point and just cut the handle instead of the lock! The only thing you can do is safeguard your equipment from the "smash and grab" type opportunistic skum.

You may aswell worry about someone stealing the bloody car!
I think that very few people would bother cutting through a massive lock and chain onto like a bombproof box...

You might even get the bomb squad called out before someone bothers to steal it, most robbers are oportunistic, and would decide not to bother stealing something like that
