I recently had the opportunity to shoot a 2 week old baby girl. I had done her moms maternity shots and evidently they liked me as they came back to let me shoot their newborn girl. We are also planning another shoot a few months down the road.

Anyway, here are a few from the shoot, C&C welcome. :D

Since you requested critiques I will give it a go. :)

Let me first say they are great captures. I think you caught that "awww" moment that comes with shooting newborns, very well.

#1 Looks like the focus point fell on her belly. therefore leaving the face and eyes unfocused. It looks like you tried to save it, but the focus is still on the belly.

#2 has AMAZING color ...very pretty. Focus looks great on the eyes, but it looks like you softened it too much in PP or skin smoothed it too much? I am not sure of your workflow? It makes the baby look like plastic a little too much. Just tone down that on this one and you have got an AWESOME picture ready for print

#3 Beautiful Lighting, looks spot on to me. I also like the criss crossed arms of the dad. However you chopped off part of the dad's hand and the baby's feet? Baby feet are totally adorable and should be kept in the picture. Other then that, this photo is fabulous.

#4 my FAVORITE of the bunch. but again the foot is lost in this photo. I would also like to see the baby's face down more so we arent looking directly at her chin? But that is a personal preference.

Take these notes for what they are worth, as I am still a newbie as well. But the things listed above are what caught my eye.

Overall I think you did an Awesome job. I am sure more will post their replies as the day progresses.

Thanks for the C&C. I crop everything to 8x10 in my workflow and sometimes that means I lose things on the edge of the photo. In this case it was little feet. I may go back and see about a recrop to try to keep the feet.

For the first shot, I did miss focus a bit but I think it still turned out ok. I wish I would have gotten the focus better as this could have been a phenominal shot.

Oh, and have you ever tried to get a cold baby to move her chin down? LOL. Not an easy task. I kind of took what I could get. :D Thanks again for the C&C, it's how we improve.

Cute pics but I HATE the pacifier. I think that ruined the shot for you. Sorry. Babies have such cute little faces and that huge pacifier just covers hers up.

Those are beautiful except for the pacifier.
