I was considering buying a couple of 4Gb SD cards for my 1DMkIIn. These would be used for "backup" .jpg files alongside my 4Gb CF cards (which work fine)

I've borrowed a couple of 4Gb SDHC cards (which seem to be the only type available in this size) but the camera fails to recognise them or allow me to format them.

Canon say they should be OK in my camera but anyone here actualy know if they should work?

You need the latest firmware for SDHC to work . . . It's 1.1.2 for the 1D IIn I believe.

As Jon says you need 1.1.2 but then you should have no problems, I use a 4GB Ultra II as a back up card in mine and get the full 4GB out of it.
