Yep, check out the Sticky but the most recommended and purchased tripod on POTN seems to be the Manfrotto 055PRO and 488RC2 head. I have one and it's beautifully made and a great device.

Don't discount the tripods made by Dynatran..
Look on ebay for amvona or dynatran

NOTE; be patient and factor in shipping charges.
Don't get caught up in auctions; wait for one with little/no activity and buy it. People drive up auction prices higher than the buy it now because they're in auction frenzy mode.

Check the sticky and exercise the search function, this question has been asked thousands of times.

"best" is going to set you back about $900. Gitzo 3540LS and Markins M20 with RRS QR LR II clamp.

Do some reading first:

It depends on what you want to do really. Do you intend to take it out with you to do landscape type shots? Do you want to travel with it? Is it only going to be used in a studio? How much weight will it need to hold (bearing in mind what equipment you plan on getting in the future)? All that needs to be considered before you can make an informed choice as to what is best for you.

For me I wanted to be able to take mine out walking / hiking and be able to pack it in a suitcase when I go away, so I opted for the manfrotto 190 XPROB (smaller / lighter than the 055) with 486RC2 head, so far I have been very happy with it.
