How do you set-up for the flash to sync at 8.5fps ?

I selected the flash to sync but don't get flash with every shot, and if I deselect the high speed sync, I get limited at 1/250sec

If you need more power (than the 1/128 shown above), set the flash to 1/8 power and then hook it up to an external battery pack. You'll be able to easily do 10 fps for several seconds at that rate. Don't overdo it, though, unless you want to burn out your flash. :)

You don't need to do anything fancy, necessarily. Just have the camera set for 8.5 FPS, slap the flash on in full auto ETTL let it rip.

You'll lose frames however if you're trying to get too much power from the flash. Upping the ISO or opening the aperture will drive down how much power you need from the flash. That will help it keep up with 8.5fps shooting.

so 1/128 of power with main batteries and 1/8 with a quantum or such right ?

Thanks so much guys..

I'll give a try ..

I need it for birding so it will be 3-4fps burst here and there.. Using a better beamer

At 1/8 power, you'll be able to shoot 7 or 8 frames with just the internal batteries. You'll only need an external power pack (even the Canon pack will do) if you want more than eight continues frames without any interruption.

If I set-it to High speed sync it will go above the 1/250 speed but won't do every frame

If I select manual 1/8 or manual 1/128 it will go just to 250th of a second and I need a lot fast for birding.

Kind of confused as to what to set it to

You can set it in manual mode and enable high speed sync, allowing for any shutter speed you like.

Pay attention to the distance scale. HSS will require a higher power level to get the same distance.
