Check this link and see if anything on that sounds familiar. If you think that might have happened, call your local Canon office and see if they're covering the problem.

The problem was with components supplied by a third party, as I understand it; choosing some other brand won't give you any assurance that something similar won't happen. I'm afraid Canon doesn't have a Pakistani branch; the closest are Canon India and the Canon Asia Regional HQ in Singapore. I believe Canon replaces the affected parts when they receive one of the affected cameras. I don't know if it would be possible to, for instance, clean off internal corrosion from connectors and terminals, if that is the cause.

Just concluded something....

"While reports of this malfunction have been
rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the
product is exposed to hot and humid environments."

Well it means that cannon company is a customer discriminating,,it produces products with ist class quality to the customers of united states and products produced for the other parts of the world has quality issues...............

Unfortunately, we are unable to receive cameras for repair from overseas
address, nor can we ship to an overseas address.

Means cannon company's services and help is only for the customers in states, you ppl do not consider your overseas customer.....

Well if all services are for the restricted area's customer then why do dey produce products for the other parts of the world???while going for a 5mp camera i had many choices which included low price plus same functions but i went for the cannon just bcoz of its name and reputation but now i think that i was totally wrong, big names also have compromises on the quality........
Anyways it was my last cannon camera and also i will advice other ppl now either not to go for cannon or get it from states coz only then u ppl can have a quality product...
An unfortunate customer of unfortunate cannon

Were you on the Canon website? I think you were on the American site. Go to www.canon.com (external link) and click on your country to recieve area-specific help. I think in the first statement, they mean that the problem only occurs is extreme climates (heat/humidity) that doesn't occur in the U.S. Not that they give customers here better products. I can see how their statement could be confusing to you! Hope this helps a little. Good luck with your repairs! :)

Exactly. That's not the main Canon site; it's only the US distribution site. Check the Canon Asia or Canon India websites; you'll be able to reach them from the Canon Worldwide site. And miserable as our summers may get in parts of the US, they don't get the extended heat and humidity without any relief that you may experience in Singapore, for instance.

Singapore is the central office for Canon's South Asia operations. Last I looked Pakistan was in South Asia. And generally, if your country isn't listed, a neighboring country's office handles it. If Pakistan doesn't have a legitimate Canon importer, I'm sorry, but there I don't know what to tell you. Canon would, in that case, make you take it back to the legitimate importer, even if that was in another country. What did your warranty papers say?

Where did you buy the camera? You need to contact the Canon office serving that country. Canon USA only handles the United States. I think it's pretty nice of them to offer to repair your camera once you get it to the US, since they could quite easily have told you to take a hike. You need to contact Canon India, as the closest national office, Canon Singapore, as the regional office, or whoever is the primary importer for Pakistan. I've told you this before.

Canon Asia is in Singapore. They're the regional office for all of South Asia.
Canon India is the closest Canon National Office to you, regardless of the political situation between the two countries.
Someone had to import Canon cameras to Pakistan. Who?
Check those three resources. Don't waste time checking with Canon USA, Canon Canada, Canon Europe, or Canon South Africa unless that's where you bought the camera, and if you did, expect to have to find an address in that country to use for the return.
