I dislike the Domke gripper straps with today's plastic bodies, as it would seem they mar the body more. I prefer the OpTech Super Classic strap, as a limited stretch, non-slip design that is more compact (not nearly as wide as the Pro strap that POTN sells).

Why would they mar the body? I have no such issues. The OpTech Pro Strap I have used and liked too, though after a couple of years the neoprene lining started to delaminate. I wish that OpTech switches to a different material for their traction buttons - they don't grip well enough for me. The Domke on the other hand grips as well as Kirstie Alley's hand on a Twinkie, they are that good.

DDCSD: How is the quick-release switch on the Transporter? That's the one I was looking at, it looks quite comfortable but there aren't a ton of pics of it available, from what I've seen...

I never really got comfortable with the QR, to be honest. I have a tendency to be fidgety and found myself playing around with the QR buckles. I could see myself unsnapping it and reaching for my camera completely panic stricken as it falls to the ground. They are secure though, and no doubt would not just come apart by themselves.

The neck pad is separate from the strap, which most people seem to prefer. It would slide out of place on my neck once in a while, but not often.

Here's a couple of really quick snaps of mine. If you'd like some other view I can take some more shots on Thursday. It also came with a memory card pouch that I pulled off of it and am currently using on my Kata backpack.

Please don't mind the water spots on my "backdrop". ;)

Ahh ok, they aren't as flimsy as what people seem to write about them on forums - maybe they're the fidgety type

So the QR buckles are strong and secure?

And you wouldn't be selling your strap any time soon, would you? ;)

I figure you'd have gone through the process of looking at the different Lowepro straps (Voyager, Transporter, and the other one I forgot the name to) - what are the differences between the straps? As most websites are quite vague about it.

I think they are plenty strong, but as I alluded to earlier, they seem to release fairly easily when pushed. But I had no worries about it coming off by itself with my gripped 20D with my 200 2.8 and 2X attached and the 430EX on top. I don't think I'd put a 300 f/2.8 on it, but I don't have to worry about that anytime soon anyways... :)

I have no experience with any of the other Lowepro straps, so I couldn't make a fair comparison.

I actually would be willing to part with it, but I'd like to keep the memory card wallet. I've got 1 camera and 5 straps right now. Wow, that sounds pathetic.:lol:

I'm off to bed right now, but if you are interested, I'll let it go for $12. If you don't like it you can mail it back to me for a full refund, you just pay shipping back to me. I'll be gone until Thursday, so don't be worried if I don't reply anytime soon.

What bothers me about the Domke hardware is as much the fact that there is considerable mass to go swinging thru the air and smacking things (including parts of MY body as well as the camera body), when compared to the signficantly lower mass that plastic (such as on OpTech) has. Also plastic rubbing on plastic does not leave the shiny abrasions (not so much 'scratches') as much as metal rubbing on plastic. Having taken the Domke off the cameras, I moved the Domke straps to my Quantum battery packs, where their very slim profile allows me to slip them over a shoulder, then put on a jacket or suit coat, and they become hidden from view and the jacket secures them onto my shoulder.

I had the Lowepro one and really didnt like how it felt, so I gave it away and got the Op/Tech Pro Loop. Wow, MUCH nicer! I highly recommend it!

Another vote for the OP/Tech Super classic pro-loop. I just got it yesterday and am already in love with it. It is super comfortable, and small. If the pro strap seems to big and wide, as it did for me, I would highly recommend the super classic. Just an excellent strap and not too much $$$.

So what are the differences between the OpTech Classic, Super Classic and Loop straps? My heaviest lens is 70-200 f4 do I need the super classic or loop or the base model would do the job. I need a new strap I just don't want to overkill...

Throw them all away. I got UPSTRAPs (upstrap.com) and they are awesome. Strong like you wouldn't believe and they absolutley do NOT slip. Not cheap but well worth it.

I like the Smugmug freeby. The Crumpler Industry Disgrace looks a bit excessive, but comfortable.

You can attach the Crumpler (or really Lowepro or anyone else's) pouches to this strap. It has "loops"...kind of like what you would attach to a backpack's shoulder straps (i.e. cell phone, iPod). Might be handy....

I've got the industry disgrace. It's quite over priced for what you get.

Pros:
-Good length adjustment
-Better cushion then stock canon strap
-Fun Colours
-You could attach something to the strap

Cons
-No QR system
-Bulky
-Cost

I like to carry my camera on my shoulder. I like the Upstrap and the Domke Grippers for this purpose. I have an Optech Pro Classic, it is a comfortable strap but does not grip very well compared to these. I was very surprised to find that the Lowepro straps do not grip very well, I bought one and tried it for an hour until my camera almost fell off my shoulder when wearing a shirt that the Upstrap and Gripper do not slip off of (i.e. a t-shirt).

Someone mentioned that the Domke strap might scratch a plastic body. I think that this might be possible with one of the Domke Grippers with the QR option. These have metal QRs. I prefer the non-QR versions. These have no metal that is likely to come into contact with a camera body. Might try one of these, these straps stay on your shoulder very well.

Best Wishes

Rick :)
