Dut da da da.....

And its time for

Stephanie's Question of the Day

Ok so at this last wedding i bounced my flash...shot straight up and such...I still got 'wall shadows' even some during the ceremony...What to do?

Do you have a flash bracket?

I use a stroboframe "camera flip" bracket for inside stuff with flash, it gets rid of most shadow problems. I usually don't bounce my flash with it pointed straight up, My favorite light from bounce is if I point it behind me, but sometimes thats a stretch. Even bouncing light from a wall beside you can be flattering. I would suggest that you have either hubby or daughter sit in one location in a room and try bouncing it every direction until you get the lighting you like then adjust from there. And check into the bracket, no kidding Steph, it will get rid of shadows. A lot of folks don't like brackets, but I do, I like them a lot better than shadows.

I have bounced my flash off of someones shirt also. Any white or light surface will do the trick.

See I don't care for the bracket, but I do use Gary Fongs Diffuser. I LOVE that and many don't love that at all.

It's kinda like what you like, what you want to do, what you want to spend etc.

You gotta create the Stephie style!

Bouncing you have to kinda know your environment, There are some great guides online about how to bounce etc.

Was the ceiling white and flat? Low to the ground or arched? I generally bounce at an angle unless it's the reception and as the light gets lower and lower I am sometimes straight on!

It's a trial an error also.

Joe Bussinick - takes an assistant and her job is to wear a white shirt and walk with him and he will bounce off her white shirt to get the desired look he wants.

Joe is a pro shooter from California who shoots no wedding for under 17K

that is freaking helirous.

When flash is allowed, do you use your lightsphere for all the ceremony shots and formals

I use it all the time. I love it, even on portrait shots outside at times. I'm a flash freak, I'm trying to get away from it, and when I did it, at Ami's party, I should have used it, but we all learn as we go!

The way I see things, and it may not be the perfect way is:

When someone hires me to shoot an indoor wedding, they know I most likely will be using a flash. For group shots and such, they are what they are, and are generally not expected to be works of art, they just want a photo for the book with their families in them. The customer usually doesn't critique how well we use the light, they are happy that everyone in the picture is in focus and have heads LOL. Other photographers are pretty much the only ones that will notice or critique on how you lit a scene, and they aren't paying you. SO............please your customer.:D

I flash everything too! lol I have been making myself use natural light a lot more lately and still not sure which I like best. I don't like shiney spots, but purple hair doesn't do much for me either and I love backlighting with girls.

Kathy did you happen to look at that link above of the actions and tutorial?

How close are these actions to the one in that package I can't remember the name? Nik or whatever, I just bought them and can't remember it...

There it is had to look it up Nik Software Color Efex Pro 3.0

I like her Eye Doctor and Dentist set, and a few others....she also has some free actions on her blog!

I started watching it then my husband called and I had to stop it. I need to go finish watching it, but I might go take a nap first. I woke up at 2:30 and couldn't go back to sleep, now I am sitting here yawning and feeling beat.
