Ok guys here goes nothing! I bought my first DSLR on 5/23/08 And took these within the first 2 hours. I would love some feedback...

now before you guys go nuts all these were shot in the automatic modes (macro, Landscape, ect.) and were also shot in Jpeg... These photos have not been altered in any way they came straight from my camera so enjoy or dont enjoy haha...

Welcome to the world of DSLR.

#1 is justification for buying photoshop CS3. Its a beautiful flower and the colors are nice. I find it soft and and also ill-composed because there's too much negative space on the right border. I would have cropped it.

#2 is a winner. It is sharp, well focused, well composed, and has a breath-taking subject. I almost get vertigo from looking at it.
BTW, what was your vantage point? Were you really hanging that far over the side to get this shot?:D

#3. I see nothing here to critique. The subject doesn't do a lot for me, but that's my problem and not due to the quality of the capture.

Thanks for the feedback!
haha my parents asked the same thing...
Vantage point was a small hidden trail besides the 800ft bridge.

I put them out here untouched because i want the most feedback so i thought that was a good idea.. and it worked thank you

#2 is hot. Really nice vantage point, lines, clarity, everything. That's a fantastic shot.
#1 has some issues to me, mostly that nothing feels focused.
#3 I would like to see a little more exposure and better white balance.

I'm still enjoying the lines captured in #2 between bridge, supports, and shadows. Nice!

Thanks Tranfer its a really cool bridge.... if you ever saw xXx starring Vin Diesel this is bridge he jumped the Corvette off of. It was really spectacular...

and would i be able to edit #3 or the way you would like....

With #1 your depth of field is so short that the flower petals that come toward and go away from the viewer are blurred. Because of this depth of field, the tips of each petal are also blurred. It appears the focus point is either at the base of the purple or possibly the distal left petal. Regardless, there is no clear focus point to me with no sharpness. The closed flower is pretty sharp but I think that's coincidence. Next time you could try shooting more on top of it, using a smaller aperature (larger f-stop) for greater depth of field, or shooting the flower more rotated so you don't have quite as dramatic near and far parts with empty focus in between. Just me thoughts.

#3 if you want to try and adjust it and if you have the RAW file, try other white balance options for a whiter look. You can boost exposure that way too if you want to.

Very nice, the only advice is that you learn to control DOF. When using a macro, since you are so close, that the DOF will be pretty narrow. The bridge shot is cool, great perspective, but maybe narrowing the DOF a little at the end would create a blur, to show a greater distance.
