Gitzo Mountaineer or Explorer?

I'm just waiting for the newer version Gitzo's to get in stock and then I'm going to order the GT2531 with the RRS BH-40 head, L Bracket, etc. Probably within a couple of weeks....the legs aren't in stock yet.

Anyways, I just am wondering if I should consider the Explorer version of the legs instead of the Mountaineer. The Explorer model has the center column that is capable of going horizontal and letting you get lower for macro shots and other vantage angles.
Any thoughts? Is it something to consider....or do you end up sacrficing something to get that?
Just curious now....still probably going with the straight Mountaineer 2531 unless there's a compelling reason to go with the Explorer version.

Seems like a great idea....I never was interested in this model until yesterday....
It certainly has great possibilities! And, as long as it's stable....why not??
