New to the world of flash...Just picked up a 430EX...Would like to experiment with off camera flash portraits... Question is, is my old vivitar 2800D able to be used as a slave/secondary unit? I would need an optical trigger but no point if it wont work with it.

Should I keep it?

The 2800D should work fine with an optical slave, but I think you will be limited to full power only. I do not think you can adjust the manual mode to different power levels.

I seem to recall some posts not too long ago on using the 2800 with an optical slave.
