Is it still worth buying a pre-owned 1D MKIIN

I have three bodies, 40D / 5D / D300

Im planning to sell my Nikon gears in two to three months to get the 5D MKII if released by then.

But someone is offering a mint 1D MKIIn at $2k.

Would it still be wise to get that pre-owned MKIIn considering my 40D already has more features than the IIn sans the pro build, 8fps and weather sealing.

Thanks for your inputs.:)

i just bought a 1Dmk2N at $2k. 8k auctations very very clean. I would get the 1Dmk2n and ditch the 40D. But thats just my honest opinion, as i've never owned a 40D.

I too have never owned a 40D, but I had a 30D and have seen the similar build quality of the 5D (which, I might add, I am not saying is poor - the build is extremely good, but not like a 1 series) - if you're anything like me, once you've had a 1 series, you'd never want to go back.

One word... D'UH! Of course it's a no-brainer. And that's a great price if it is a clean, low mileage unit. I'd even buy a 1D classic. The 1 series are truly amazing. Act quickly.

Simply put, if it meets one of your needs and/or wants then sure, otherwise no. I have one and it's a great camera, my favourite to date (I haven't been able to afford the III's yet).

But really, if it's not going to fill a need or want then why bother as it seemingly hasn't interested you up to this point and you have some very capable Canons already.

What do you shoot? For sports, action shots, etc., the MkIIn will be a HUGE upgrade to you, but for everyday shooting of the kids, dogs, landscape, etc., I honestly think the MkIIn is no better than the 40D, plus it's bigger and heavier, which may be a bother to some. That being said, I made the swap from 40D to MkIIn and couldn't be happier! (but I shoot a TON of sports)

Absolutely!!! Mark IIN will dust the 30D or the 40D in my opinion. I have a New Mark III but also purchased a Mark IIN from the classifieds here on the forum. EXCELLENT!!!

You make a good point for your case and I would not recommend you buy one.

In general the 1DMKIIn is arguably Canon's BEST 1D in its class. The only real advantage the MKIII has is the new battery ~~ once used to this feature, you won't want to go backwards.

Actually, the markIII is better in every respect relative to the markII series....lighter,better layout, faster, better high ISO and lowlight focus..better battery....auto sensor cleaning, live view....micro adjustment for lenses etc. etc....i have the markIII and used to have the markII...assuming no AF problems there is no comparison between the cameras..night and day!

Erm, only ONE focuses, properly. All the benefits mean nothing if it won't AF accurately.

The MKIII is the first 'pubic' recall of a Canon camera and has failed Rob Galbraith's continued testing procedures ... updates due on his website imminently.

.....but true.........and yes I have owned one......blue dot even.

But back to the topic.....

Ditch everything but the 5D, and get the N. The perfect combo of grace and power.

........and a plus is if you like the natural looking colors of the 5D.......not the over saturated look of the 40D & Mk3, you will again love the N. Talking in camera JPG processing of course. Personally something about the new colors I don't really like.....in Standard pic styles.

7D ......waiting on the 5D3

I so love my Mark2n. Its amazing. I have the 40D, and have gone out to shoot sports with both of them. I have seen people say the 40Ds autofocus is great, just as fast as 1D, blah, blah blah. NO WAY. Its day and night. The 40D is a great camera for hikes, parties, backup etc but when it comes to fast action shooting/birds in flight/once in a life time spur of the moment shooting....I would take my 1D in a heart beat. I dont know what i was thinking when i wanted to sell my 1D to get a 40d. Insanity! There really has not been a situation where the 40D would out perform the 1DM2n. Oh wait...there is. The menu on the 40D kicks ass. I hate having to push 2 buttons to scroll though the 1d menu. It would be nice to have the joystick AF like the 40D/1Dmark3. Aside from that, nothing. Good luck with you decision.
