Shame the umbrella is visible in the Gecko's eye here. Not much I could do about that.

Hmmm....

Just about all of the shots I posted from the zoo trip have been unprocessed (except for resizing). I'm just happy with the results from the camera.

And I'm just plain too darned lazy to make them look any better.

Case in point - this is a pissed off little tortoise...

that's very nice Pete!

In a wedding shoot, you have to do a lot of shooting in a short amount of time...so for me at least, there are background variables that I can't cut out, w/o cutting out content and some lighting can't be helped...(there was so little shade at the chalet at noon, shooting in it was virtually impossible) and inside there were skis and dead animals (stuffed) things that I didn't want in shots....so often you have to process wedding shots quite a bit. At least from the weddings I've done anyway.

Pete, are you shooting RAW or JPG ?

I always shoot RAW (just in case I need to fettle anything).

The more comfortable I am with the 1D Mk II N, the less I've been worrying abut it, and the less I've been processing.

But on the other hand, Lisa is mistress in the art of making processed shots look totally natural. I'm not that good with photoshop.

for a portrait shoot? the 40D. I love it. I used it more at both weddings than the M3. For an action shoot the M3. I was thinking that if it weren't for the fact that I love to shoot action things, I'd sell the M3 and pick up another 40D.

and this is not to say that the 40D can't do action...but the M3 just does it better

I totally get you there. I guess the more you get into wedding/portraiture, the more you'll be thinking ahead and position yourself and your subjects to limit any post processing/cloning work. This is what our wedding photog was telling us. He looks at the scene real quick before taking a bunch of shots, and then does what he can to tidy things up. Saves him a bunch of time afterward.

most definitely!
and I do try to do that now...but sometimes you have to take the "lesser" of the evils instead of the "wow, this is going to be great".

Lisa, one of my shoots was at a golf course at high noon. I so feel your pain.
But sometimes you have to just take what you have, and it works.
This is a final processed shot. It makes me cringe, but they loved it. It was one of their favorites.

The 40D does fine with action shots.

Highlight Tone Priority. It's one of the custom functions.
