Thats a good thought, but she would be pissed if I sold that stuff. She doesn't like it if I don't stick with what I have. Apparently I am never satisfied. I had the Rebel for 2 years, it is time to move up.

Wow---I feel your pain. My second wife and I maintain separate accounts in addition to the "household" account. I don't ask her what she does with hers and she doesn't ask me about mine. Ditto for our respective hobbies; I buy, sell and trade my stuff and she does the same. Trust me, it's a relationship saver.;) Anyway, the 5D is currently causing my 40D to spend time in the camera bag. My son already has his eyes on it!

Somewhat similar for me. We split and pay household stuff but maintain our own personal accounts. Since we both use debit cards for 99% of our purchases, it would be an absolute nightmare to try and keep up with everything each of us does. As long as I have enough money to pay bills and buy the occasional gift, she doesn't really care what I do with the rest.

Hmmm...here's an of the wall suggestion.

Sell your 17-40 and 24-70 and XT with the grip. Buy the 5D with the 24-105. You won't miss the 17-40 because 24 mm on a Full Frame is like 16 mm on a crop; with IS and the ability to shoot at higher ISO on a 5D, you won't miss the 24-70. Once your wife sees what you can create with a 5D she'll be begging you to buy more lenses!!:D

Even if this doesn't work out, I think you won't be satisfied until you get to 5D status.

An interim possibility is to go the 40D route, which is absolutely awesome too, but you won't be satisfied there!

Sorry to hear that, but you have awesome glass to work with... play around with it - try new things... maybe off-camera flash with a hotshoe cord, etc.... maybe some filters or a CPL?

Luckily I have the elinchrom skyports to trigger my 580EX on a light stand. I almost use the flash exclusively off camera. It has some good results.
