Thought I'd pass this along.

I bought the ND soft grad filters kit in April 2007, used them a couple of times and with one thing and another never used them for nearly 12 months. During this time they were stored in their original microfibre cloth wallet.

I recently took them out to show to a friend who was thinking of getting some and was shocked to see the filter coating had come away and was on the microfibre wallet. The filters were streaky and the coatings were not consistent throughout. Originally the filters they were fine.

When I contacted the Technical Sales Manager at Lee Filters, he said, after I had returned my filters to him, that the date of manufacture (March/April 2007) pointed to a batch of filters which they had problems with the coatings and have had a number of returns. Obviously they were very apologetic and immediately replaced my filters.

When the replacement filters arrived there was a note in the package from the Tech. Sales Manager saying that I shouldn't store my filters in the microfibre wallet for long periods, as the microfibre cloth might react with the coatings. I now store them in the 10 filter pouch, which I had already purchased.

Just thought I would pass on the warning to anyone who stores their ND filters in the original cloth wallet.

Not sure where you are based Red Dot, so here is the Lee 10 filter pouch at Amazon.com (external link) or at MORCO UK (external link). You may be able to find cheaper elsewhere.

Interesting. I keep my Hi-Tech ND Grads in a Lee Microfibre pouch permanently. They have been in there for over a year with no degradation. But I will go and check the inside of the pouch now just in case.

I got the impression that it was a problem with a batch of filters and coatings made early last year.

Just passing the info, don't want to be a scaremonger.
