I need to know if the rebel XSi can make folders on the camera to save the photos in before downloading to the computer or if this feature starts with the 30D/40D line?

My XT did it so I would think the Xsi is capable. These were xxxCanon named folders.

that is fine as long as it can do it. my company is going to buy one for my new job but that is one of the features they are looking for. i was playing with one today in a local best buy and i could not figure it out on there. not nearly as easy as it is on my 5d anyway.

Now, these are Canon folders not ones that are user made. I think (correct me if I am wrong) new folders are typically made if you exceed the amount of pics allowed in folder or start shooting on a new day.Folders show up when you connect camera or card to computer, they don't show up in camera other than the file name i.e xxx- xxxx (folder #- file #).

Every digital camera I've ever had has put the pictures in something like a xxxCanon folder, so I'd assume the XSi does as well.

I need to be able to create my own folders so when i take pictures of different things i can sort them before downloading to the computer. I know I can do this on my 5d, only thing is my work will not spend that kinda money on a camera.

I think he means he wants to user created folders in camera. I have no clue about this and didn't even know it was an option.

That being said, how hard is it to sort pics when you connect card to computer, that is what I have always done.

I agree its not difficult to create folders on computer. The job I am doing is for a car dealer and we need to photograph 40 cars a day about and we want to reduce as much time as possible so creating folders on the camera would save a few minutes doing it on the computer. this is important to my boss for some reason.

While I have never attempted to create custom folders in camera, I would think it would take as long, if not longer, to do this in camera than on a PC.

If you do a manual file numbering reset a new folder is created. Files saved in that folder start at 0001. See page 111 in the manual. No option for giving your own name to the folder though.
