Morgan, I think Lister is still around as a race car maker, isnt both AC and McLaren still going? TVR and a few newer brands like Noble are still British owned too aren't they?

Yea but theyre hardly mainstream! Normal cars just dont exist in this country. Vauxhall is canadian, rover is dead, jaguar is american, rolls royce german. The most british car now is the nissan micra or the bmw mini!

Yes, AC is still limping along, McLaren have just brought out a (relatively) affordable sports car, I think Noble are still British as are many "cottage industry" marques that produce cars in small numbers, such as Ariel with the superb Atom and Atom V8.

TVR though have been Russian owned for several years now, as some Russian rich kid asked daddy for a TVR for his birthday and daddy misheard him and thought he asked for TVR, so bought him the company. OK, so that's probably not how it happened, but it was bought by a 24 year old Russian who lives on daddy's money.

Sadly, our biggest British owned car manufacturer is now Carbodies, I believe, the people who make the traditional black cabs that patrol our cities.

Aston Martin are now largely Kuwaiti owned, MGs are Chinese and Lotus are Malaysian. Rolls-Royce and Bentley are German and Jaguar are Indian.

Ratan Tata would be surprised to learn that.;):)

Nope, Jaguar is Indian now. Ford sold it to Tata Motors a couple of years back.

As for Rover, they are still in production in China (although facelifted and renamed Roewe - I guess the Chinese can't pronounce the V) and may well be back in future. The new MG6 GT is based on the Roewe 750 (Rover 75) iirc.
