How did you get 100mm out of your 150-500mm lens?

Tim

Hi Orogeny
Big mistake on my side, this was not my Sigma lens but the Canon EF-S 18-200 lens.:o:o:o
Will post some taken with Sigma later.

Well guys my Bigmos is on its way to another owner. :( I'm glad I was able to sell it (I needed the money for something else), but I miss it already. I'll have to rely on everyone here for my fix so keep the pics coming! :)

After receiving this lens almost a week ago, I finally had a chance to try it out at our local zoo yesterday.
Edited to add, that no sharpening was performed on these. Not even during the raw conversion. Only resized, and save for web

Well, I finally popped for a new Bigmos from Amazon last night. They have a deal, use your Amazon store card and no interest for 12 months on eligable cameras and lenses. It should be here next week. I can't wait. The birds are going crazy around here!:D

Would you guys recommend these lens for a beginner/hobbyist photographer who enjoys taking mainly birding and wildlife photos? It will be used on an XSi.

If you've got the cash to spend. The 55-250 or a 70-300 might be cheaper as 'starters' but if you're going for birds, you'll want all of that 500mm. The OS seems to be very helpful, but a monopod...and or a tripod would probably be good ideas as well (monopod especially)

Already have the EFS-55-255 and it just doesn't have enough reach. Figured this would be a smart, cost effective step up, without having to spend huge money on the Canon equivalent.

They will never be used for work, or publishing's..At best, they would be used to make pictures out of and frame and hang up in the house.

Yes. Assuming $1k is the budget, this is a very capable bird/wildlife lens that is hard to beat and that also will not leave most owners with the feeling of "I need to upgrade" for a long time. Given good light and good user technique, it provides wonderful photos (as can be seen throughout this thread).

Thanks that is what I was looking for! How big is it actually on the camera itself? And would you notice a IQ difference using it on an XSi compared to a T2i?

"Large" is relative. It's way bigger than a 55-250is for sure. It weighs a little over 4 lbs. and is pretty long. It's "BIG," but that's what it takes if you want to get semi-serious about shooting birds/wildlife. I can't speak about the IQ of those 2 cameras you listed, I've never owned either. However, I'm suspecting that if you do your part, both will produce fine photos with this lens. For that matter, just about any modern camera will be good enough as long as you get the settings correct and use proper technique, I got plenty of shots I was happy with when I was using my old XTi a few years ago.

Thanks for the +1 Kevin. Funny thing is that the BigmOS is actually on the "small" side compared to some of the lenses I like to buy for bird shooting! LOL!

300 2.8
400 2.8
500 4.0
etc.....

too bad my funds won't allow.... and by "funds" I meant the wifey... :D
