The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked - Photographers shoot to thrill, not to kill

They have a deal, use your Amazon store card and no interest for 12 months on eligable cameras and lenses. It should be here next week. I can't wait. The birds are going crazy around here! Clay

The OS seems to be very helpful, but a monopod...and or a tripod would probably be good ideas as well (monopod especially) Kevin

Figured this would be a smart, cost effective step up, without having to spend huge money on the Canon equivalent. 7D MK II.17-40L.100-400L.500L

Assuming $1k is the budget, this is a very capable bird/wildlife lens that is hard to beat and that also will not leave most owners with the feeling of "I need to upgrade" for a long time. Given good light and good user technique, it provides wonderful photos (as can be seen throughout this thread). Mark

amyandmark3 Goldmember More info | Mar 19, 2010 10:14 | #1588 "Large" is relative. It's way bigger than a 55-250is for sure. It weighs a little over 4 lbs. and is pretty long. It's "BIG," but that's what it takes if you want to get semi-serious about shooting birds/wildlife. I can't speak about the IQ of those 2 cameras you listed, I've never owned either. However, I'm suspecting that if you do your part, both will produce fine photos with this lens. For that matter, just about any modern camera will be good enough as long as you get the settings correct and use proper technique, I got plenty of shots I was happy with when I was using my old XTi a few years ago.
