No I was hand holding, the image is still for the most part but once in a while it starts to shake in the view finder. Here is on of the first shots with it, 100% crop.
That's a nice photo. At the risk of pointing out the obvious, at 500mm a butterfly sneezing a few hundred feet away will effect the lens. Of course its a matter of individual perception, but with is off it shakes, with is on it more swishes. With the OS on it actually makes me a little sick if I look through the view finder for long enough.
I initially thought that when people talked about controlling breathing and mirror lock up, and proper shutter release buffoon techniques, that they were being overly dramatic perfectionist. After 1 day with the lens, I am quickly understanding what they ment. I used to just toss the camera up, point and shoot. Not at all like that with this lens. It take much more purposeful movements, but the reweards are great.
