... and a zoo picture ... also not a bird if you hadn't noticed. Its a great birding lens, but it is so much more than that. Its great when you want a specific type of picture, and you are willing to accept that you won't get every shot. For example, I never carry it with family around, unless my wife has her p&s to get the snapshots with. I went into the zoo looking for this kind of shot, and sacrificed indoor shots, and elephants that were not at least 100 yards away. I got no giraffe shots, and I knew that going in, and I was ok with it. Due to its size I chose on this day not to carry any alternative lenses.

Love the diggin' trucks. You got up close to a subject that normally you cannot get enough access to get up close.

I'm really not anti-bird. In fact that is what I shoot with this lens 90% of the time. The great surprise for me is just how versatile this thing can be.

I have been to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo dozens (hundreds) of times, and don't know if I have every seen the Koala awake. I'm glad I had the reach of this lens when I finally saw him awake this weekend.

I am glad that I can finally start to get shots that remind me of the ones that I always admired on these forums. (only part of the credit goes to the lens of course)

Since we're on the non-bird topic, these are from my first time shooting bikes

Hi all,

I was given this lens to have a play with by a friend who can't get a decent shot with it. I've never had a lens with this much reach before so when I got home I went straight out into the yard to have a play.

I've been considering the 100-400L for some time but this lens has just changed my mind, for the price & my ability I think this is the lens for me!

I did some comparisons on a dove from wide open through to about F16 & found it was soft up to about F9 then started to go soft again from F16 but in between was sharp.

I showed my mate the results & his jaw dropped, it was then he told me he was shooting in full auto!

Anyway here are a couple of quick ones from the back yard, I want one of these, & great thread with lots of great photos & info

It does work pretty well for airshows, it's great on a 7D.

Couple of bird shots taken through double glazing which gives an odd blur\halo on detail
